FAQ
When is registration?
Our dance "year" runs September through June. Priority registration for the new season is offered to returning students May-June. Most students register during the summer months and join with the beginning of the new season in September. As long as space is available, new registrations are accepted through March. Students wishing to join classes after that time may not be able to participate in our annual recital, due to limited time to catch up on material and costume availability, however they may still be able to join in the class. These cases are taken on a situational basis.
What forms of payment are accepted?
We accept cash, check, Visa, Mastercard & Discover. Payments can be made in the studio office or left in the payment drop box. Automatic monthly billing, and convenient online payments are available too.
Do you sell dancewear and shoes?
Yes. The Dance Company offers quality dancewear and shoes at competitive prices for our students only. Our staff can fit your dancer and order everything they will need for class. Orders arrive within 2 days once placed with our distributor. Visit our office to be fit and place your order today!
Will my child be in a class with children of the same age?
In our Preschool Department, students are grouped by age. for those age 6 and above, class placement decisions are made based on age, ability and experience level. While we do our best to accomodate placement requests, having dancers in the class that will provide them the best and most appropriate learning experience is our number one goal. We ask that our professional assesment be respected when placement decisions are made.
Do you offer private lessons?
Private lessons are available at the discretion of the faculty and are dependent upon studio space and staff availability. If you are interested in private lessons for your dancer, contact us to discuss scheduling.
What should I do if I need to miss class?
In the case of illness, or other conflict causing absence, we appreciate a phone call or email. Make-up classes are available and encouraged, so you can check with the office at that time for your options.
What performance opportunities are available?
All students are encouraged to participate in our annual recital. It traditionally takes place near the beginning of June at Southport High School. Check our calendar to confirm the date of this year's recital. Occaisioinally, our Ballet and Preschool Dapartments will present a December Ballet, such as The Nutcracker. In addition to these more formal settings, we sometimes perform at local festivals, events, parades and nursing homes. Classes are sometimes invited to participate in competitive performances as well. All class performance opportunities are optional, but highly recommended as dance is a performing art. Students looking for expanded performance and pre-professional training opportunities should consider doing solo, or special group work, and/or joining our Dance Company Performance Ensemble.
What is the ISDC?
The Indiana State Dance Championships is a dance competition/festival hosted by The Dance Company. We host this competition to create a fun, welcoming and positive competition experience for our students as well as those from other studios. We use this event each year as an opportunity to give as many of our dancers as possible a chance to get on stage and dance! If you have not already been a participant, look out for this event in the future!
How do you get a solo, duet or trio?
Solos are given to students at the discretion of the faculty. Decisions on solo style, music and content are left completely up to the teacher. Solo work is a special privilege and responsibility, requiring extra time, practice and fees. Dancing alone on stage is not for everyone. If you are interesting in solo work, see your teacher to discuss your dancer's options.
Can I come in for a trial class?
Absolutely! We are happy to let intersted students participate in a class before registering. You may contact us to arrange a visit. Walk-in visitors are also always welcome. We look forward to meeting you!
