Indiana State Dance Championships
The Indiana State Dance Championships is an annual competition. If you have
never participated in our event, we hope you will take this opportunity to give
us a try. The 2010 event will be held at Roncalli High
School on Saturday and Sunday, February 20th and 21st.
Jazz Master Class
ISDC strives to offer a competitive experience that is both
rewarding and educational. I hope your students will take part in our Jazz
Master Class as well as the competitive aspect of the weekend. This
opportunity to take class from one of our judges should prove to be a rewarding
and enriching experience.
ISDC is proud to provide a panel that is made up of fellow dance
educators. They understand the challenges faced by dancers and instructors, in
a studio setting, at the various stages of development. You will find their
comments to be insightful and constructive. When scoring each entry, our judges
will take into account technique, performance, choreography, age level and
appropriateness, and their overall impression!
Adjudication
Recorded judges comments will be made available to the teachers
at the end of the event. In addition to their comments, judges will give an
overall impression score on a scoring sheet. This score will place the dancers
in High 1st, 1st, High 2nd, 2nd, High 3rd or 3rd place. We will also continue
with our “Special Awards” to recognize students for individual accomplishments
or special talents, (i.e., Most Energetic, Best Performance Face, Highest
Kicks, Best Leaps, etc.) Be sure to notify our “Special Awards” Judge if you
have someone who you would like to recognize that weekend for special effort or
accomplishments at your studio. We also have a “noncompetitive” category for
students new to competition or who are not interested in receiving a score but
would like our judge’s comments.
Costuming
Our event is unique in that we do not allow costuming. Please
carefully read the rules
and regulations concerning appropriate attire and adhere to these
rules. Infractions will cause points to be deducted from the participant’s
overall score. The simplified attire allows the judges to adjudicate based on
technique and performance and downplays the importance of glitz and glamour. It
also gives participating choreographers an opportunity to see their work on
stage early in the competition season before your costumed events.
Overall Titles
All scheduling of entries and classes is dependent upon volume
and type of entries received. Four Overall Title competitions for
soloists will be awarded throughout the weekend:
Petite Mr. or Miss Dance
of Indiana |
(4 - 7 years old) |
Junior Mr. or Miss Dance
of Indiana |
(8 - 11 years old) |
Teen Mr. or Miss Dance
of Indiana |
(12 - 15 years old) |
Senior Mr. or Miss Dance
of Indiana |
(16 years old and over) |
These titles will be named at the completion of each solo
division. Titles are determined by the combined scores from at least two solos
in different dance disciplines to find the best “allaround” dancer in each
category. Male and female dancers can compete in the appropriate age groups.
Videotaping
We are one of the few competitions that still allow you to video
tape your own dancers. Parents wishing to video tape their child must obtain a
video pass from their studio director. You are not allowed to video tape the
performances of dancers from any other studio. We hope participants will find
this a valuable tool for preparing for other performances and competitions.
Categories
We offer a wide range of categories allowing you to place work
appropriately for judging within the competition. These include Hip Hop,
Lyric, Modern, and our unique Choreographer division available for original
student works. For a complete list of categories and the
requirements for each, refer to the
Rules and Regulations.
